The simple map on the right shows the location of the Submarine Mining Establishments in Home Waters, which at that time would have included what is now the Republic of Ireland. Berehaven Establishment was subordinate to the main Submarine Mining Establishment at Fort Camden in Cork.
It will be noticed that in the North of the UK most of the Submariner Companies are Volunteers, while in the South they are primarily Militia units.
